The Repair Cafe initiative was started in the Netherlands in 2007 by Martine Postma with the aim of reducing waste and empowering individuals to fix items themselves. She founded Repair Cafe International Foundation and Repair Cafes have become a worldwide movement.
We started the Biddulph Repair Café in 2023 to provide a free service to people in the local area. The Repair Cafe is not only a place to get things fixed it also contributes to a more sustainable future, gives people new skills and provides a place to meet and share in the community.
Since starting in April 2023 we have fixed 90% of the items that have been bought to the Cafe and saved 858kg of CO2. That's an equivalent saving of driving a car 1,950miles - the entire length of the country 2.3 times!
Our Repair Cafe is committed to being free and runs off donations from people who have had items fixed and the events which our orgainisation runs. We wouldn't get anywhere without our wonderful volunteer repairers and organisers, if you are interested in joining the Repair Cafe have a look at the information below and in the meantime come along to our next dates and see what we're up to!

FAQs
Do I need to be a qualified electrician/plumber/seamstress etc?
You don't need any formal qualifications to be a repairer, just a skill or enthusiasm to get involved
Do I have to come every month?
There is no formal commitment to come to every Repair Café session, just let us know in advance if you are free to volunteer on a date so that we can advertise accordingly based on who we know we have coming.
I'm still not sure this is really for me..
If you're still not sure just come along to one of our Community Hive days and see the Repair Café in action. We'll have a chat show you what we're up to and you can decide for yourself if you'd like to get involved.
Can I help but not repair anything?
As well as volunteer repairers we also need volunteers to be involved with organising the day, checking items in and generally helping with the smooth running of the Repair Café, if this sounds more like you get in touch.
Ok you've convinced me how do I contact you ?
Just click the contact us link and get in touch with which ever method you prefer or just come down on one of the next dates to have a look.
